Ellis, a lonely dreamer, harassed by his family and bullied by his classmates. Together with his secret girlfriend Natalie, he wants to break out of his life. Leon Ludwig, Noemi and Cassandra tread the most difficult way through the drug lair that no-one can imagine. Benjamin Foster - young, lost, alcoholic. Only the meeting with the small Crystal will change his life forever. Three stories, three dramas by Joshua Kay Schaeffer, that meet in this anthology. ELLIS BAXTER, LEON LUDWIG and THE FINAL STATION are the author's greatest books. They tackle taboo themes in an authentic and realistic way, and should give the reader a sad, emotional, but also hopeful look at the truth of life. Do not look away. Listen to them and become part of their stories, for these three novels are those that are closer to the author than any of his other books.

Ellis is teased and bullied by the whole school, and in his family it's not different. His sister Karen harasses him to the limit, and his mother's addicted to pills and blames Ellis for that. His father never has time and is permanently in the office. As Ellis meets the mysterious girl Natalie for the first time, he feels understood for the first time in life. He trusts her to everything and writes all that he experiences with her in a small diary - without knowing that Natalie is just a figure from his dreams and does not really exist. After a situation at home escalated, Ellis gets crank and stops speaking. Then he is taken by his father in the children's home Cereon. But even there it's not going well for him - until Natalie, the girl of his dreams, suddenly becomes real and enters his life ... Three years later: Ellis and Natalie, now almost 17, do care selflessly of Natalie's little sister, and everything else is going well in their lives. Until one day the mother of Natalie and Nadja gets seriously ill. Now the busy father must get through with the three children alone and breaks soon at the seemingly impossible task. He takes refuge more and more in the work and the children are left to themselves more and more. Soon also Natalie is overwhelmed with caring for her little sister Nadja. Ellis will be happy to help her, but can he do it? Can he bring back Natalie's father again the closeness to his daughters, without forgetting himself, because he slowly begins to feel alone again? As Natalie then even gets into a clique trying drugs, Ellis has almost no more advice ...

On the eve of her first working day, about herself she mainly knows the goals, to emerge, and the flaws: geek and hard worker, rigid and perfectionist, angry and proud, short-sighted and naive, poor but not selfish, anything but stupid, indulgent with others, too severe with herself. So everything goes wrong, except one thing, maybe two. That first day she meets a boy who seems perfect for her, desiring her, the synthesis of all her dreams, a mix of joy and possibility, even malice and cunning, even the distraction she’s afraid of. What to do? Someone under the same roof helps her to understand her best, the one it’s time to give light, thus exploring also his dark personality, as deep and passionate. Will she make to focus what she wants more? Sense or sensibility, love or fun, light or darkness, charming prince or black angel? And at work? She will find her way among chaos guided only by her honest determination? To know more, look for me on Facebook.

“It is very seldom that mere ordinary people like John and myself secure ancestral halls for the summer. A colonial mansion, a hereditary estate, I would say a haunted house, and reach the height of romantic felicity—but that would be asking too much of fate! Still I will proudly declare that there is something queer about it. Else, why should it be let so cheaply? And why have stood so long untenanted? John laughs at me, of course, but one expects that in marriage. John is practical in the extreme. He has no patience with faith, an intense horror of superstition, and he scoffs openly at any talk of things not to be felt and seen and put down in figures. John is a physician, and perhaps—(I would not say it to a living soul, of course, but this is dead paper and a great relief to my mind)—perhaps that is one reason I do not get well faster.” “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman is an important early work of American feminist literature. Gilmans story is a collection of journal entries written by a woman whose physician husband (John) has rented an old mansion for the summer. As a form of treatment for her “temporary nervous depression”, the unnamed woman is forbidden from working. Charlotte Perkins Gilman used “The Yellow Wallpaper” to explore the role of women in America during the late 1800s and early 1900s. The story was first published in 1892.

It was in Rome itself, in the sublime solemnity of the Colosseum, among the ruins of the palaces of the Caesars and crumbling pillars of the temples of the gods, that the first dreamy outlines rose before my fancy of the figures here offered to the reader’s contemplation. Each visit added strength to the mysterious impulse, to conjure up from their tombs these shadows of a mighty past, and afterwards, at home, where the throng of impressions sorted and grouped themselves at leisure, my impulse ripened to fulfilment. I will not pause here to dwell on the fact, that the period of Imperial rule in Rome bears, in its whole aspect, a stronger resemblance to the XIXth century than perhaps any other epoch before the Reformation; for, without reference to this internal affinity, we should be justified in using it for the purpose of Romance simply by the fact, that hardly another period has ever been equally full of the stirring conflict of purely human interest, and of dramatic contrasts in thought, feeling and purpose. I must be permitted to add a word as to the notes. I purposely avoided disturbing the reader of the story by references in the text, and indeed the narrative is perfectly intelligible without any explanation. The notes, in short, are not intended as explanatory, but merely to instruct the reader, and complete the picture; they also supply the sources, and give the evidence on which I have drawn. From this point of view they may have some interest for the general public, unfamiliar with the authorities.

An adventure with a roving genius of literary criticism Michael Hofmann—poet, translator, and intellectual vagabond—has established himself as one of the keenest critics of contemporary literature. Safely nestled between the covers of Where Have You Been?, he offers a hand to guide us and an encouraging whisper in our ear, leading us on a trip through what to read, how to think, and why to like. And while these essays bear sharp insights that will help us revisit writers with a fresh eye, they are also a story of love between a reader and his treasured books. In the thirty essays collected here, Hofmann brings his signature wit and sustained critical mastery to a poetic, penetrating, and candid discussion of the writers and artists of the last hundred years. Here are the indispensable poets without which contemporary poetry would be unimaginable—Elizabeth Bishop, "the poets' poets' poet," the "ghostly skill" of Robert Lowell, and the man he calls the greatest English poet since Shakespeare, Ted Hughes. But he also illumines the despair of John Berryman and the antics of poetry's bogeyman, Frederick Seidel. In essays on art that are themselves works of art, Hofmann's agile and brilliant mind explores a panoply of subjects from the mastery of translation to the best day job for a poet. What these diverse gems share are the critic's insatiable curiosity and great charm. Where Have You Been? is an unmissable journey with literature's most irresistible flaneur.
